Post Waffle Crisp Cereal #2: The Absurdity of a $1,600 Box of Cereal
My favorite type of cereal used to be Waffle Crisp. I say that it used to be my favorite because it doesn’t exist anymore. Post Consumer Brands, the company who made it, decided that it would be a good idea to take it off the shelves. Though I am sure that this decision had to deal with how many boxes were being sold, I still can’t help mourn the departure of this breakfast staple. Since I became aware of Waffle Crisp’s discontinuation, I have searched far and wide to get my hands on a box. That’s where the point of this article comes in.
I found that a couple of people were selling ancient, crusty boxes of Waffle Crisp for hundreds of dollars. The two options I found were $1,600 and above. I understand that this cereal is rare and becoming increasingly more rare as time goes on. I can’t fathom a reality where I would pay so much for a box of cereal, even if said cereal were my favorite. I have a sneaking suspicion that these astronomical prices have something to do with YouTubers’ tendency to choose “Taste Testing Discontinued Cereals” as a video idea. This gives people who still have boxes of Waffle Crisp lying around the green light to charge pretty much whatever they want.
I wish Post Consumer Brands would see the cult following Waffle Crisp has attained from the moment it left the market. I would hope that they would consider bringing it…
