Waffle Crisp: Another Letter to Post Consumer Brands
I never thought that my popular long-form piece of content would be an article about a box of breakfast cereal, but that’s what it is. I wrote my piece about Waffle Crisp cereal over three years ago, sent it out into the world, and went on my merry way. After I hit publish, I went back to work on a number of different other pieces. I noticed my views were climbing and I couldn’t figure out why. I finally noticed that a majority of my views were coming from the Waffle Crisp article. Before I knew it, one fat boy’s love letter to his favorite bowl of sugary goodness blew up. Post decided to right their error and bring back Waffle Crisp to the masses.
Fast forward three years and Waffle Crisp is gone. Again. As quickly as it came back on the scene, it slipped into the ether. Instead of being able to order a big bag of my old friend, I am taunted by the generic equivalent or the ghastly equivalent from Eggo, if that second-rate copycat is even being made anymore. The cereal aisle has entered into a dark period where it’s nothing but the old standards with very few noteworthy options entering the marketplace. I refuse to believe a few of these options couldn’t be wiped from the record in favor of Waffle Crisp.
